What’s SIGGRAPH 2014?

SIGGRAPH stands for the Special Interest Group on GRAPHics and Interactive Techniques.

The first SIGGRAPH conference was held in 1974 and is held in different locations across the United States and Canada. Since 2008, a second conference has been held in Asia every year in December. During the autumn in Finland an evening long graphics conference is held to bring folks up to date on advances in 3D graphics and animation.

On Wikipedia I find that: “SIGGRAPH is widely considered the most prestigious forum for the publication of computer graphics research”.

Here is a short video of the SIGGRAPH 2014 Technical Papers Preview Trailer:

SIGGRAPH2014 is both a Conference, held from 10 to 14 August, and a Commercial Exhibition, from 12 to 14 August, all taking place at the Vancouver Convention Centre in Canada.

You get to spend five days in full immersion with the “world’s leading experts in computer graphics and interactive techniques”. You can “connect with people from everywhere in the world who share your joy in the power of art and science. Interact with artists, researchers, educators, animators, newcomers, and pioneers in computer graphics and interactive techniques”.

Computer Animation Festival

What I look forward to most is the computer animation festival. From the SIGGRAPH2014 website: “The conference also hosts the international SIGGRAPH2014 Computer Animation Festival, showcasing works from the world’s most innovative and accomplished digital film and video creators. Juried and curated content includes outstanding achievements in time-based art, scientific visualization, visual effects, real-time graphics, and narrative shorts”.
