Spheree
A while back we did a post about Siggraph 2014, so here is one technology that was presented there.
Found out about this on the IEEE Spectrum website in a post by Jeremy Hsu, who was writing about Spheree, a spherical display that lets you see 3D animations at any angle.
This technology was developed by researchers at the University of São Paulo, in Brazil and University of British Columbia, in Canada.
The image is created by small projectors mounted at the base of the sphere, giving no blind spots and no seams. The image in Spheree is controlled and changed using a Leap Motion interface, more about that below.

You can find out more on YouTube here:
And if you want to read the complete IEEE Spectrum blog go here http://spectrum.ieee.org/tech-talk/consumer-electronics/audiovideo/spheree-display-3d-interactive-animations.
The developers say that Spheree can be used by 3D animators or modelers, for interactive museum displays and for video games.
Now to look at that interaction …
Leap Motion

From their website “The Leap Motion Controller senses how you naturally move your hands and lets you use your computer in a whole new way. Point, wave, reach, grab. Pick something up and move it.”
You can buy the Controller for €89.99, which is plugged into the USB of your Mac or PC.
No, it does not replace your mouse or keyboard, but you do get eight cubic feet (around 2.4 cubic meters) of interactive 3D space.
You can scroll down pages on the web, draw with a pencil, build 3D objects, shoot with your finger and more …

This takes things to a whole new level 🙂

That Spheree is absolutely amazing. It is these kinds of inventions that make me sad to be a senior citizen. It is so hard to imagine what will be coming down the road next and what I will be missing. (sigh)
