Oculus Rift Development Kit

The Oculus Rift Development Kit is intended for developers and is not really for consumers at this point. The going price is USD $300 and you can order HERE to ship for December 2013.

The Oculus Rift uses 2 lenses in a ski mask-designed head-mounted display. The two lenses combine forming a 1280 x 800 display. Each eye can see 640 x 800 pixels and even though that may sounds like low resolution for 2013, there is far more to this product. The rest of the hardware includes a break-out control box that you use to plug the Rift into your computer. This features DVI, HDMI, micro-USB and power.

Famous game developer John Carmack has played an integral role in the development of the Oculus Rift virtual reality headgear from the start. A few days ago we heard that he has resigned from his position with ID software to focus on Oculus Rift! You can read more about that HERE.

Here is a 44 minute video looking at the amazing virtual reality headgear and what it can do…

Here is what  had to say about Oculus Rift headset: “you’re not just about to use any old virtual reality headset, but you’re about to wear THE virtual reality headset. You’re about to slide on the future of gaming, and quite possibly, the future of technology (yeah, I went there).”
