Careers in 3D

If you’re interested in starting a career in 3D computer graphics, here are a few resources to assist you in your selection. A career in 3D has openings for artists and technically minded people alike.

There are a number of sites that you can go to so that you can learn what is “out there” what is required of you for the various positions and what you can expect from a career in 3D.

Motionographer Jobs is one such site and there are full time, temporary and part time jobs available on this site.

If you are a 3D artist and you want to explore the possibility of getting a job that highlights your artistic ability, then you will want to have a portfolio of your work. This site will show you how to put together a professional portfolio and where you need to get started.

A career in 3D can span a range of disciplines, including modelling, texturing, lighting as well as a variety of effects. Ideally you should have a wide range of skills, so that you are flexible and able to work on many different aspects of a project.

A 3D modeler or digital sculptor’s job is to interpret the intent and style of a drawing or painting or sketch given to them by the conceptual team.  Modelers are the fpeople who will translate the 2D art style the game or film has been conceptualized in, and create a precise and fully functional 3D model.  The best digital sculptors will recreate another artists drawing accurately while adding in their own details to help to solidify the models place in its created world.
