Free 3D Textures!
The last time we took a look at 3D painting and mapping. Now we turn to some downloading of free textures you can use on your models.
Just a thought, before you download first check that you have the right mix of hardware and software installed on your computer. If not, you may have trouble with the download.
Then again, some sites require you to log in and become a member. Also, before downloading or using textures, don’t forget to check the License page or the Terms of Use on any site. Mostly textures (and models) can be used for free following certain conditions. The first site to consider is: http://map.3dmodelfree.com/. Once over there take a look at the list on the left of the screen and you will see all sorts of textures such as wood, leather, decoration stone, glass and skin. Select and download the texture you want and play with it.
On the next site, 3D artists Marcel Vijfwinkel and Wojtek Starak created this collection of textures, which you can find here: http://www.cgtextures.com/.

Another site is http://texturer.com/, where you will find these images:
You can also download textures from here. ATTENTION!!! Not all of these images are free, and others don’t cost much. As written on the site: “MILLIONS of images from $0.15”.
Finally, here is a 20 minute video tutorial by Porter Nielsen on how to paint using texture: http://cgcookie.com/blender/2011/10/18/using-the-texture-paint-layer-add-on/.
He is using the Blender with the Texture Paint Layer Add-On. A texture is used from CG textures on an Easter Island image downloaded from Wikipedia.
Before I forget, if you want something explained here about working with 3d, let me know and your suggestion will be put into the pipeline for consideration.

Hi Val, thanks for the good advice on checking if the textures are free, and many thanks for the various links for finding textures.
Great texture sites! Just in the first page saw amazing textures that put my imagination at work!! And I’m really entering textures now so it was perfect timing! Thanks 🙂
You’re welcome Tania, thanks!
