3D Film Gravity – Box Office Triumph

Gravity is a 2013 3D science fiction thriller and space drama film directed, co-written, co-produced and co-edited by Alfonso Cuarón. The film stars Sandra Bullock and George Clooney as astronauts who survive the mid-orbit destruction of a Space Shuttle and attempt to return to Earth.

The 3D film Gravity was released in the USA and Canada on October 14, 2013 and November 8 in the UK and it has been a smashing success getting rave reviews for cinematography, Bullock’s outstanding performance, musical score and direction.

Although Gravity is the title, this is the one most obvious absent element of the film as the two astronauts stuck in space float around their ship like fetuses connected to the ship only by umbilical cord like attachments.

3D Film Gravity – 3D Sales eclipsed 2D hands down!

The film way surpassed box office expectations bringing in a whopping $55.5 M in the opening weekend (the highest grossing film for any film released in the month of October in history!) and this was largely attributed to a huge marketing thrust to get people to watch the film in Imax 3D.

Business Insider Australia tells us that: “Warner Bros. announced that 80% of its box-office gross this weekend — roughly $US44 million — came from 3D and IMAX 3D showings.” This can clearly be seen in the above chart!

Truth is that most of the film locations offered the film in 3D. It was not an easy task to find it available in 2D for screening. The cost of attending an IMAX 3D theater is higher, but people were more than willing to shell out the fee for the 3D tickets.

This film is a must see 🙂
